ASDA - comment
The continuing equal pay case between ASDA and female shop staff is likely to cost something, but it is unlikely to be £1.2bn back pay + £400m in annual costs in the media. The latest leaked document is from the plaintiff's side and will accentuate the positive accordingly. The right to be compared with (mainly male) distribution depot workers has been won, but not that the roles are of equal value. Ultimately a figure will be agreed between ASDA and the workers union to settle this claim, but ASDA will seek advice on the equality of the roles first. This case is not something that is going to be resolved quickly.
