Iceland - comment

Aldi has increased its long-term target to 1,500 stores, up from an earlier goal of opening 1,200 by 2025.  This is on the back of a surge in demand in the discounters during the current “cost of living” crisis.  The comments came as part of an interview as Aldi opened its 1,000th store in Woking on Thursday.  A further 20 new stores are expected by the end of the year.  However, further openings are curtailed due to a struggle to find suitable sites, reinforcing the comments from their rivals Lidl and Iceland.

Q2 results from Iceland, to this Friday, 8th September, are likely not to be published until early September.
